Broken Bow competed at the Southwest Conference Track and Field Championships in McCook on Saturday. McCook won both the girls and boys team championship with Gothenburg finishing as the team runner up in both divisions. Broken Bow finished 4th in the boys team standings and finished tied for 7th in the girls standings.
Five different individuals were crowned conference champion for the Broken Bow boys team. Coy Wardyn turned in another outstanding performance in the boys pole vault. After winning the pole vault at the Central NE Track Championships earlier in the week with a new school record mark of 14′ 6.5″, Wardyn bettered that Saturday setting the school record again with a winning effort of 15′. Max Denson was the conference champion in the boys shot put with a winning effort of 53′ 8.5″. Cruz Safranek won conference gold in the boys 100 meter dash with a winning time of 11.06 seconds. Noah Osmond was conference champion in the boys 3200 meters and was runner-up in the 1600. Osmond’s winning time in the 3200 was 10:41.79. Zane Eggleston took gold in the boys 300 meter hurdles with a winning time of 42.31 seconds.
Highlights for the Broken Bow girls team included Janae Marten finishing as the runner-up in the girls shot put. Halle Quinn placed third in the 800 and the 4×800 meter relay team of Halle Quinn, Addison Ellis, Maren Chapin, and Gaby Staples finished as the runner up.
