Broken Bow Boys Golf Preview

The Broken Bow boys golf team begins its season this week when they travel to Wildhorse Golf Course in Gothenburg for dual competition.  Head coach Riley Weems took time to visit with Central Nebraska’s Sports Source to preview the upcoming season.  Coach Weems said that this year’s team is a nice mixture of players with experience and players who are still somewhat new to the sport.

“We have kind of a balance of both.  We do have five freshmen this year.  One of them, Adrian Gibbons, he’s going to really push for some varsity time I feel because he has played quite a bit of golf.  The other four freshmen they’re just really kind of getting into the game and they’re kind of in a more learning the game situation.  We also have one senior, Will Monninger, who is normally a track kid but he got hurt in football and he just wants to be involved in something so he’s out for golf for the first time ever.  We do have a lot of experience coming back.  We have two great seniors with Austin Fox and Gavin Carrizales they’ve been with us for four years and they are really developing into a leadership role.  We also have quite a few returning with varsity experience like Caedmon Jensen a junior and a couple sophomores in Zach Jackson and Jack White.  We have a great balance of experience and some boys that just really need to learn the game.”

Jack White is a returning state qualifier from a year ago.  Coach Weems said that this year’s schedule will be very similar to last season.  Broken Bow will host its home invite toward the end of the season on May 2nd.  The Southwest Conference Golf tournament is scheduled for May 8th.  Broken Bow will travel to Kimball on May 19th for the Class C-5 district meet to be played at Four Winds Golf Course.
