Broken Bow Boys Golf Preview

The Broken Bow boys golf team is scheduled to begin its season this week. Broken Bow is scheduled to travel to Gothenburg on Thursday for a dual with the Swedes then compete in its first varsity invite of the season Friday at North Platte. Riley Weems is the head coach of the Broken Bow boys golf program this season. Weems took time to visit with Central Nebraska’s Sports Source about the upcoming season and talked about transitioning into the head coaching role.

According to coach Weems, Broken Bow has 14 individuals out for the team this season.  Senior Zack Gaffney returns with the most varsity experience having competed at every varsity meet for the team last year.  Fellow seniors Lucas Bell and Hagen Campbell also return with experience at the varsity level.  Coach Weems also mentioned senior Braylon Rynearson, juniors Dakota Baum and Gavin Wright, along with sophomores Gavin Carrizales and Austin Fox who they anticipate to be in the mix for filling varsity spots this season.  Coach Weems said that the coaching staff talks to the players about not just competing against others but also competing against yourself with the goal of getting better each and every tournament.

Unfortunately, the weather conditions have not allowed the team to get on the golf course to practice as they would like.  Coach Weems said the team has been able to spend time on the simulator and have spent time working on swing mechanics and the mental approach to the game.
