Broken Bow Boys and Girls Both Fall in Opening Round of SWC Basketball Tournament

The Broken Bow girls basketball team fell to McCook Tuesday night in the opening round of the Southwest Conference basketball tournament.  Broken Bow led 10-8 after the first quarter but was then outscored 31-10 in the middle two quarters.  The Lady Indians tried to fight back in the fourth quarter and cut the McCook lead down to as little as seven but McCook was able to hang on for a 44-36 win.  Broken Bow was led by Gaby Staples who finished with a team high 12 points. McCook advances to the tournament semifinals on Friday in Kearney where they will face Gothenburg who defeated Valentine 72-15. On the other side of the bracket, Minden defeated Cozad 63-22 and Ogallala defeated Holdrege 58-45.

Broken Bow faced top seed and undefeated Ogallala in the opening round of the SWC boys basketball tournament.  Ogallala picked up the win 78-51. Ogallala advances to the semifinals where they will face Gothenburg. The Swedes knocked off the #4 seed McCook 69-68. On the other side of the bracket, Holdrege defeated Minden 78-57 and Cozad held off Valentine 52-40.

The Broken Bow girls and boys basketball teams both drop down to the consolation bracket and will play on Thursday in Gothenburg.  The Broken Bow boys will face Minden at 5:30 followed by the Broken Bow girls vs Holdrege at 7 p.m.  Both games will be broadcast on KCNI 96.3 FM / kcni1280.com / KCNI Pure Country App
