The Broken Bow Athletic Booster Club will host its annual Broken Bow Fall Sports Kickoff today at Kinkaider Brewing Company. The event will introduce this year’s Broken Bow fall sports teams. The event is open to the public with a pulled pork sandwich meal available for purchase. During the event, the press box suites at Mark Russell field will be auctioned off for every Broken Bow home football game this season. Broken Bow Athletic Booster Club member Brent Kirkpatrick visited with KCNI/KBBN radio about today’s event and the auctioning off of the press box suites.
“We do have like a four person and a six person suite. The four person it’s a little tight six person same thing, but you can get plenty of room in there. You can see everything going on. Great view of the game and getting to see all the action and plus we offer food and drinks with that so everybody gets a drink and some food. A sandwich, some candy, that’s all included in that when you buy that suite”
The auctioning off of the suites and kickoff event itself is used as a fund raiser for the booster club. Kirkpatrick shared the vision of the booster club and how donated funds are used.
“So our goal is to support basically the student athletes and the coaches as much as we possibly can. Sometimes there’s just things that come up right. Anything we can do to help them get a competitive advantage basically or just help promote any of these kids with their successes. That’s pretty awesome to see some of that stuff. We do like the Hall of Fame stuff, right? We’ve done some big projects in the past. We have like a coaches wish list thing that we really enjoy doing that. Really grateful that we have a lot coaches that spend a lot of time. I don’t think people realize how much free time the coaches use up of their own to do this stuff. We’re trying to work towards a big project. We’ve got some ideas. We just got to decide which one we want to go with and which best helps the school and the athletes.”
Today’s event will also feature a live radio broadcast through Central Nebraska’s Sports Source featuring interviews with coaches and players of Broken Bow’s fall sports teams. The broadcast will start at 5 p.m. featuring the Broken Bow volleyball team followed by the cross country team, girls golf team, and conclude with the football team. The broadcast can be heard on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
