Broken Bow, Anselmo-Merna, Twin Loup, Burwell and Cozad Qualify for State Wrestling Duals

Qualifiers have been announced for the NSAA state wrestling dual championships scheduled for Saturday at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney.  The KCNI/KBBN coverage area will be well represented at the event as Broken Bow, Anselmo-Merna, Twin Loup, Burwell, and Cozad have all qualified.  Broken Bow will be the #2 seed in Class C.  The Indians compiled a dual record this season of 16-1 with their only loss coming to Class B Waverly who also qualified for state duals.  Broken Bow will open the dual tournament against the #7 seed Logan View.  Wilber-Clatonia is the top seeded team in Class C.  Broken Bow is a two time state dual champion winning the class C title in 2018 and 2019.

Anselmo-Merna, Twin Loup, and Burwell made the eight team field in Class D.  Anselmo-Merna is the #2 seed and is 7-0 in dual competition this season.  This marks the first appearance for AM at state duals.  The Coyotes will open with Shelby-Rising City in the quarterfinals.  Twin Loup is the #3 seed.  While this is Twin Loup’s first appearance at state duals in team history  the team of Sargent/Burwell qualified for state duals in the event’s inaugural year back in 2013 followed by Sargent/Burwell/Loup County qualifying in 2014.  The Wolves are 7-1 in duals this season with their only loss coming to Anselmo-Merna.  Twin Loup will open with Thayer Central in the quarterfinal round.  The Burwell Longhorns are the #5 seed.  Burwell has had great success at the state duals highlighted by runner-up finishes in 2017, 2019, and 2020 and claimed the state title in 2018.  Burwell will open the tournament against defending state dual champion Sutherland.

Cozad will make its first appearance at state duals.  The Haymakers are undefeated in duals this season and are the number one seed in Class B.  Cozad will open the tournament against Schuyler.

Classes A and D will be on the mat first Saturday with the quarterfinal round starting at 9 a.m. followed by classes B and C.  Central Nebraska’s Sports Source will provide live radio coverage of the state duals on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com
