Broken Bow American Legion Juniors Collect Walk Off Win to Open Area Tournament

The Broken Bow American Legion Juniors advanced to the winner’s bracket of the B-6 area tournament with a thrilling walk off win against Alliance on Friday in Holdrege. The Bow juniors led 5-0 after four innings. Carter Hall started the game going 4 1/3 innings giving up no runs on just one hit and striking out two on just 45 pitches. The game took a dramatic turn in the top of the fifth when Alliance ended up sending 10 men to the plate and scored 5 runs to tie the game. Alliance then scored a run in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead into the
7th. With Broken Bow down to their final out, Queston Young lifted a fly ball to right field that was unable to be caught allowing Drew Ellis to score the tying run and send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 8th, Alliance had the go ahead run thrown out at the
plate for the third out of the inning to keep the game tied. In the bottom of the 8th, Dylan Kulhanek led off with a single followed by two fly ball outs holding Kulhanek at first base. With two out, Caenyn Priest lifted a fly ball to left field that was unable to be
caught allowing Kulhanek to advance to third and the inning to continue. That set the stage for Drew Ellis who delivered the game winning hit to drive in Kulhanek for a walk off win. Aiden Page had a multi-hit game finishing 2 for 3 with an RBI and Jackson Hall drove in two runs. Broken Bow advances to the winner’s bracket game where they will play McCook at 1:30 Saturday afternoon in Holdrege. McCook defeated Gothenburg in round one 11-1.
