Broken Bow American Legion Baseball Takes Doubleheader vs Lexington

The Broken Bow American Legion baseball teams hosted Lexington for a juniors and seniors doubleheader on Wednesday night at Paul Brown Field.

The Bow juniors improved to 3-4 on the season as the offense exploded for 21 runs with 16 of them coming in their first at bat.  There were a lot of offensive highlights for the Bow juniors including a two run homer by Max Denson who finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored and 3 RBI.  Xack Lowry was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 4 runs batted in.  Coy Wardyn drove in three runs while Colton Uhlig and Owen Hartman each drove in two runs as part of Bow’s offensive attack which produced 14 hits in the game.  Broken Bow used three pitchers in the four inning affair.  Xack Lowry pitched an inning and a third giving up 5 runs on just one hit and struck out 2.  Owen Hartman pitched one and two thirds innings giving up a run on no hits and striking out 5.  Coy Wardyn closed out the game pitching an inning of scoreless relief striking out one.

The Bow seniors collected their first Mid Nebraska League win of the season in walk off fashion 6-5.  Broken Bow led 4-1 going to the fifth inning and then things got a little wild and crazy.  In the top of the fifth, Lexington batted through the order and scored three runs without a hit taking advantage of 3 walks and 3 hit batters in the inning.  Lexington then scratched across a run in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead going into the seventh.  Lex had the opportunity to score an insurance run in the top of the 7th but a runner was thrown out at the plate trying to score and Broken Bow got out of the inning without giving up a run.  That set the stage for a comeback in Bow’s final at bat.  After Gavin Goodner struck out to start the inning, Caden Holm drew a walk and stole second base.  Max Denson then followed with an infield hit which advanced Holm to third.  After Denson stole second base, Brice Chaplin hit a hard ground ball to first which drove in Holm for the tying run on a fielders choice.  On the play, Denson advanced to third and would later come in to score the winning run on a wild pitch as Broken Bow improved it’s official overall record to 3-6.

The Bow juniors will host a tournament this weekend at Paul Brown Field while the seniors are off until June 13th when they host DCB.
