Broken Bow Advances in the Winner’s Bracket at B6 Seniors Area Tournament / Play Ogallala Sunday at 1

The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team advanced in the winner’s bracket at the B6 area tournament in McCook Saturday with an 11-3 win over Gothenburg.  Broken Bow’s win eliminated Gothenburg from the tournament and advanced the Bow seniors to the winner’s bracket final on Sunday.

Broken Bow fell behind early as Gothenburg took advantage of three Broken Bow throwing errors in the top of the first inning and scored three runs in their first at bat.  Broken Bow quickly answered back in the bottom of the first as they took advantage of six walks and scored five runs to lead 5-3 after one inning.  Broken Bow pitching held Gothenburg scoreless after the first inning and the Broken Bow offense came back with 4 runs in the second inning and another run in the fourth to make the score 10-3 going to the sixth.  In the bottom of the sixth, Brice Chaplin was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then came into score the game winning run on an RBI double by Caden Holm as Bow ended the game by the 8 run rule after five.  Holm led the offense finishing 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and the game winning RBI.

Broken Bow will face Ogallala Sunday in the winner’s bracket as Ogallala knocked off McCook 13-8 Saturday to remain undefeated in the tournament.  Sunday’s game between Ogallala and Broken Bow is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start with the winner earning a spot in the championship round on Tuesday.  McCook will play Holdrege in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Sunday.  Holdrege stayed alive in the tournament by edging Minden 4-2 on Saturday.
