Area golfers swung their way to another full score card on Thursday at the NSAA Boys State Golf Tournaments held in Grand Island and Columbus for classes C and D, respectively.
Brady Haake of Sandhills/Thedford and Jacob Walker of Mullen both went home with a medal around their neck when the dust settled in class D competition.
Haake holed three birdies in his round of 79 to pair with his scorecard of 85 after Wednesday’s round, good enough for a fifth place finish.
Walker stayed consistent on Thursday as well, improving by three strokes in the second round with an 82 while knocking in a birdie of his own on the 13th hole, placing him in a four way tie for ninth.
Mullen’s Benjamin Werner was just outside of medal contention coming in 18th. The freshman was as consistent as you can be, shooting an 85 each day including a birdie on hole 13 both days.
In class C competition, which was delayed for a short amount of time due to lightning in the afternoon, Broken Bow sophomore Jack White shot an 86 on day two to tie for 55th. Gothenburg’s Trey Bartels improved between Wednesday and Thursday by four strokes, knocking in three birdies on the day on his way to an 82 and a tie for 59th.
