The Broken Bow boys basketball team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday as they fell to Grand Island Central Catholic at the C1-9 sub district tournament. The Indians led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter but GICC would outscore Broken Bow 21-4 in the second quarter to take control on their way to a 51-37 win. Broken Bow was led by Dominic Nowak and Drew Ellis who each finished with a team high 13 points. Connor Haney of GICC led all scorers with a game high 18. Broken Bow concludes its season with an overall record of 11-14. GICC advances to the sub-district final on Thursday where they will face Adams Central who edged Malcolm 47-44.
Twin Loup and South Loup advanced to the D1-10 boys sub district final. The top seed Twin Loup advanced with a 60-20 win over Burwell. The Wolves were led by Yahya Harris who finished with a game high 20 points. Jackson Hall scored 17 points and Carter Hall also finished in double figures with 12 for Twin Loup which collected its 20th win of the season. South Loup advanced with a 56-39 win over Anselmo-Merna. AM led 25-21 at halftime but was held scoreless in the third quarter. South Loup would outscore the Coyotes 35-14 in the second half to pull away. Crew Witthuhn had 19 and Dylan Pandorf finished with 18 for South Loup. Anselmo-Merna was led by Dane Duryea who finished with a game high 24 points. Twin Loup will play South Loup for the D1-10 sub district championship Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in Sargent. The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with a live video stream of the game, accompanied by the radio call, available through Sandhills Express Facebook and You Tube.
SEM advanced to the D2-8 sub district title game with a 62-32 win over Brady. They will host Medicine Valley on Thursday for the championship. Medicine Valley held off Sandhills/Thedford 51-36 to advance.
Mullen advanced to the D2-12 sub district title game with a 69-47 win over Crawford. The Broncos will face Cody-Kilgore for the title on Thursday. Cody-Kilgore advanced with a 58-47 win over Hyannis.
Amherst edged Arcadia/Loup City at the C2-9 sub district tournament 53-52. Amherst advances to play top seed Sandy Creek on Thursday. Cozad advanced to the C1-7 sub district title game with an 89-46 win over Central City and Gothenburg advanced to the C1-8 sub district title game with a 77-49 win over Holdrege.
