The opening round of the NSAA boys state golf championships took place today. The Class D state tournament is being held at Lake Maloney golf club in North Platte.
Colin Cooksley of Anselmo-Merna is in the top 30 of the individual leaderboard after the opening 18 holes. Cooksley finished with a round of 84 which has him in a group of golfers who are tied for 27th but just two shots outside the top 15. The individual leader after day one is Quinton Heineman of Pender who shot a low round of 1 over par 73.
Brady Haake of Sandhills/Thedford finished day one with a round of 86 which has him in the top 40 after day one. Aaron Bartak of Anselmo-Merna finished with an opening round of 93.
Burwell qualified as a team for the Class D tournament. The Longhorns were led by Wryder Svoboda who shot a round of 90. Other opening round scores for Burwell golfers included Augustus Elliott – 101, Devin Konicek – 97, Titus Gideon – 106, and Landon Critel – 97. Pender leads the team competition after day one with a score of 319 which is nine shots ahead of Overton who finished day one with a 328. Burwell finished with an opening day team score of 385.
The Class C state tournament is taking place at Elks Country Club in Columbus. Cole Kramer of Sandhills Valley is among the competitors and finished with an opening round of 88 which has him tied for 42nd overall after the opening round. The individual leader in Class C is Jackson Dunham of Kearney Catholic after an opening round of 74.
