The Nebraska high school boys basketball season came to its end Saturday as champions were crowned in six different classifications.
The day began with Johnson Brock winning its sixth state title and third in a row with a 61-46 victory over Howells Dodge in the D1 state championship game. JB led by six at the half and eight after three quarters but outscored Howells Dodge 21-14 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. Johnson Brock was led by Camden Dalinghaus who led all scorers with a game high 20 points.
In Class C1, Ashland Greenwood claimed its third state championship in the last four years with a 53-39 win over Omaha Concordia in the championship game. Concordia never went to the free throw line during the game while Ashland Greenwood finished 19 of 25 from the free throw line. AG had three players finish in double figures led by Cal Kissinger and Cooper Westerhold who each finished with a team high 16 points.
One of the closest games of the day came in Class A where Papillion La Vista South edged Omaha Westside 61-58 to claim its first state championship. La Vista South had four players finish in double figures and was led by Bryson Bahl who scored a game high 21 points.
In Class C2, Archbishop Bergan, the #8 seed entering the tournament, claimed the state championship by knocking off Cross County Saturday 53-43. Bergan was led by Trey Mooney who scored a game high 16 points.
Omaha Skutt Catholic pulled away from Scottsbluff in the fourth quarter to claim the Class B state title. Skutt led by just four points entering the fourth quarter but outscored Scottsbluff 16-5 in the final eight minutes to win 64-49. It was Skutt’s seventh Class B state title and their third in a row.
The final championship game of the day was in Class D2 where top seed St. Mary’s of O’Neill defeated Wynot 63-51. It’s the second state title for St. Mary’s who won the Class D1 championship back in 2012. St. Mary’s was led by Ben Barlow who scored a team high 19 points.
