Bow Seniors Fall to Hickman in Round Two of State Tournament

The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team continued play in the American Division State Tournament on Sunday.  After edging Springfield 4-3 on Saturday, Broken Bow fell to Hickman in the winner’s bracket on Sunday.  Hickman took the lead first with a run in the top of the second but Broken Bow answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second.  Broken Bow executed the squeeze play twice in the inning to score runs.  Kanzas Kellum laid down a bunt with Brice Chaplin coming in from third for Broken Bow’s first run and Jackson Hall laid down a bunt later in the inning with Carter Hall coming in from third.  Those would be the only runs Broken Bow would score as Hickman’s Crew Moeller went 6 2/3 innings surrendering just 4 hits and striking out ten.  Hickman came back to retake the lead with two runs in the top of the third and added two insurance runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to claim a 6-2 win.  Max Denson pitched 6 full innings for Broken Bow giving up six runs on eight hits and struck out eight.

Broken Bow is still alive in the tournament and will face Seward in an elimination game on Monday at 1 p.m.  Seward dropped their opening game to West Point but stayed alive on Sunday with a dominant 16-0 win over Chadron in the elimination bracket.  The Broken Bow / Seward game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
