Bow Seniors End Season at State Tournament

The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team saw its season come to an end Sunday at the Class B state tournament in Crete. After falling to Hickman in the opening round on Saturday 11-4. Broken Bow dropped a heartbreaker to Crete Sunday in the elimination bracket 6-5. Broken Bow got on the board first as Sawyer Bumgarner drove in Blake Denson on a groundout in Bow’s first at bat. Broken Bow held that one run lead until the third when Crete batted through the order scoring three runs on just one hit and taking advantage of 4 walks and a hit batter in the inning. After each team scored a run in the fifth. Broken Bow put together a big inning in the sixth scoring three runs on three hits to reclaim the lead 5-4. Crete would respond with a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 5-5 going into the seventh. Broken Bow’s Eli Coble delivered a one out single in the top of the 7th but was left stranded at third. The bottom of the seventh got a little crazy. With the bases loaded and 1 out, Crete’s Braden Schmeckpeper hit a hot shot to the left side of the infield which appeared to drive in the winning run. However, runner interference was called which kept the game tied and created a two out bases loaded situation. The next Crete batter, Lucas Lenhoff, was then hit by a pitch which brought in the winning run and sent Crete into the next round.

Blake Denson and Eli Coble led the Broken Bow offense on the day. Denson would finish 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Coble also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 3.

Broken Bow finishes the season with an overall record of 20-10-1.
