The B-6 American Legion seniors baseball area tournament begins today at Paul Brown Field in Broken Bow. Broken Bow is the #2 seed in the six team field and will open play tonight at 7 p.m. against the #5 seed Louisville / Weeping Water. Holdrege is the top seed and will play #6 seed O’Neill at 1 p.m. followed by #3 seed McCook vs #4 seed Minden at 4 p.m. All Broken Bow games during the tournament will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. The double elimination tournament will continue through Tuesday (7/29).
This year the Class B American Legion Baseball state tournament will operate with a different format. The tournament will be divided into two divisions (American and National) with the division champions meeting on August 9th for a winner take all championship game. All Class B area tournament champions and runners up will qualify for state. The host team of each divisional tournament will receive an automatic berth to the state tournament. Auburn will be host to the American Division tournament and Minden will serve as the National Division tournament host. With Minden serving as host of the National Division tournament, it means that three teams from the B-6 tournament will qualify for state. If Minden should finish first or second in the tournament, the team that finishes third would qualify and fill the B-6 runner up position in the state bracket.
