Area Teams Compete Today at D8 District Track and Field Meet in Paxton – Reports on KBBN

Several area teams will compete today at the D8 district track and field championships at Paxton.  Teams scheduled to compete at today’s meet include Anselmo-Merna, Ansley/Litchfield, Brady, Elm Creek, Maxwell, Mullen, Overton, Paxton, Sandhills Valley, Sandhills/Thedford, SEM, and Twin Loup.

Today’s goal will be to qualify for the Class D state track and field championships scheduled for May 19th and 20th at Burke Stadium in Omaha.  The winners of the first two places in each running event today will qualify for the state meet plus the next six fastest times of the non qualifiers across all districts.  In the relays, the winning team will automatically qualify plus the next seven fastest times of the non qualifiers across all districts.  In the field events (long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus) the first two places will qualify plus the next six best performances of the non qualifiers across all districts.  The top two places in the pole vault and high jump will qualify plus those who equal or exceed the additional qualifier mark.  The additional qualifier marks are as follows for Class D.  Boys pole vault – 12’6″ / Boys high jump – 6′ / Girls pole vault – 9′ / Girls high jump – 4’11”.
