Area High School Football Preview – A/L vs Shelton on KBBN / Broken Bow vs Cozad on KCNI

It’s hard to believe but it’s the midway point of the high school football regular season.  The Ansley/Litchfield Spartans collected its first win of the season last Friday knocking off Medicine Valley 60-33.  Tonight the Spartans will face Shelton in Litchfield.  The Bulldogs are also 1-2 this season and are coming off their first win of the season winning over Parkview Christian 48-27.  Ansley/Litchfield head coach Kurt Kulhanek visited with KCNI/KBBN sports this week and we asked the coach where he has seen the most improvement in his team since the start of fall camp.

“Well I would say, we have a lot to work on on our offensive line and our tackling but the biggest improvement would be mentally.  We have two freshmen starting and a lot of kids that haven’t played.  They’ve really matured.  Fundamentally, running plays on offense, we still need to work on some blocking and things but as far as the mental part of the game and doing what they need to do, making the proper handoff and running the proper pass routes, we’ve come a long way in three weeks.”

Tonight’s game between Ansley/Litchfield and Shelton will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.  Coverage begins with the Consolidated pregame show at 6 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7.

COACH KULHANEK INTERVIEW

After back to back weeks on the road, Broken Bow returns home tonight for their opening district game of the season as they host Cozad at Mark Russell Field.  The Indians are 2-2 on the season after another come from behind win last week against Ord.  Broken Bow head coach Carlie Wells told KCNI/KBBN sports that he was very proud of the way the team overcame some adversity and found a way to pick up the win.

“Yeah.  I thought our kids gave great effort and worked hard.  We overcame some turnovers.  I thought the way they finished and kept fighting and grinding it was really good and a great effort from them.”

Cozad is 3-1 this season and is ranked #5 this week in Class C1 by the Omaha World Herald.  Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KCNI 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com.  Coverage begins with the Custer Federal State Bank pregame show at 6 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7.
