It’s another big high school football Friday night around the area this evening. Broken Bow has won three in a row and returns home tonight as they host Cozad at Mark Russell Field. One of the keys to Broken Bow’s win last week vs O’Neill was the play of Broken Bow’s offensive line and the ability to control the line of scrimmage. Broken Bow head coach Carlie Wells told KCNI/KBBN sports that controlling the line of scrimmage is a big emphasis every year.
“That’s a big emphasis of ours every year. Try to control the line of scrimmage, be the most physical up front and I felt like we did that Friday night. Thought our kids played physical and they got off the ball which opened up our running lanes so it was really nice to see.”
The Indians open district play tonight against Cozad. The Haymakers are 2-2 with both wins coming on the road against Central City and most recently at Lexington whom they defeated 30-0 last week. Tonight’s Broken Bow / Cozad game will be broadcast on KCNI 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com. Coverage begins with the Custer Federal State Bank pregame show at 6 p.m. Kickoff is scheduled for 7.

Tonight’s 8 man area game of the week features Twin Loup hosting Ansley/Litchfield in Sargent. Both teams enter at 2-2 on the season. Ansley/Litchfield has won two in a row with back to back wins against Pleasanton and Burwell. Spartans head coach Kurt Kulhanek told KCNI/KBBN sports that the keys to their success the last two weeks has been their defense and cutting down on turnovers.
“Obviously our defense. We’ve been tackling a lot better. We’re not real big wo we have to gang tackle. We always tell them you have to be physical. I know that’s cliche but it is the truth so I think a lot of it is tackling on defense and we’ve cleaned things up on the offense with turnovers. We haven’t had as many turnovers so that makes for a good game.”
Twin Loup is coming off a road win last week against Overton. Twin Loup head coach Mike Kozeal told KCNI/KBBN sports at the beginning of the year that the development of the offensive line would be a key to the Wolves success this season. Now, at the midway point of the season, Kozeal said he has seen development up front.
“I think we’re developing. We got some help from Emmett Sortum who we weren’t really counting on so much on the offensive line but he has really turned out to be a good offensive lineman for us that is now starting and wasn’t starting at the beginning of the year. I felt like we ran the ball well against Overton and we’re developing and getting better on the offensive line. Right now we’re playing two sophomores and a junior on the offensive line and they’re going to make a few mistakes but hopefully they’re getting better and starting to figure things out.”
Tonight’s Twin Loup / Ansley/Litchfield game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Coverage begins with the Consolidated pregame show at 6 p.m. Kickoff is scheduled for 7.
