Area Golfers Qualify for Boys State Golf Tournament

District competition in boys high school golf concluded across the state on Tuesday.  The top three teams and top ten individuals from each district automatically qualified for the NSAA boys golf state championships next week.

Mullen was among the teams that competed at the D-5 district meet at Crandall Creek Golf Course in Ogallala.  The Broncos placed two golfers in the top ten to qualify for the state meet next week.  Ben Werner and Jacob Walker both finished in the top five of the district to advance to state.  Werner finished with a round of 78 to place fourth and Walker was two shots behind in fifth place with a round of 80.  The district champion was Jack Baker of Hitchcock County with a low round of 74.

Mullen finished 8th in the team standings with a 429 team score.  The D-5 district team champion was Hitchcock County followed by Perkins County in second and Sutherland placed third.

D-5 District Results

SEM’s Bode Martin qualified for the Class D boys golf state tournament by placing in the top 10 at the D-4 district tournament played at Lakeside Country Club at Johnson Lake.  Martin finished tenth with a round of 88 to advance to state.  The district champion was Eli Luther of Overton who shot a low round of 77.  SEM was tenth in the team standings with a 407 team score.  Cambridge was the district team champion followed by Overton in second and North Platte St. Pat’s was third.

D-4 District Results

The Class D state tournament will take place this year at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus May 27th and 28th.
