COLUMBUS, Neb.— Several area golfers are among those competing at Boys Class D State Golf competition at Quail Run in Columbus. Day one of competition took place Wednesday (May 27).
Ben Werner and Jacob Walker of Mullen both had strong showings in their opening 18 holes of the 36 hole tournament. Werner finished tied for second place, tallying four bogeys and two birdies among mostly pars to finish with a +2 score of 74. Walker also finished in the top ten, turning in a +6 scorecard totaling 78 strokes good enough for a tie for 8th. His highlight of the day was back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes.

Bode Martin of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller entered the clubhouse tied for 17th after turning in a score of 81 highlighted by birdies on the 4th, 6th, and 16th holes.
Kason Larson is representing Burwell at state golf and finished the first day of competition with a +11 score of 83, good enough for a 24th place tie.
All four golfers have 18 more holes ahead of them on Thursday to determine their placement at the NSAA state golf championships. Full results will be posted under local sports here on SandhillsExpress.com.
