Area Football Recap and Scores 9/13

The Broken Bow Indians collected their first win of the season defeating St. Paul on the road Friday night 36-23. Bow fought back from a 20-6 first half deficit and outscored St. Paul 22-3 in the second half. Ayden Clark had four touchdowns and all came from one yard out. Bow’s first score came when Dominic Nowak hit Cobe Wells on a 31 yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter. Bow took the lead for the first time when they put together a 64 yard touchdown drive with 4:01 left in the third quarter to go up 22-20. St. Paul responded with a 21 yard field goal in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter to go up 23-22 but then Bow responded with 71 yard touchdown drive and then, after forcing St. Paul to punt from their own end zone, took advantage of the short field as they marched 40 yards and scored with 2:38 left in the game to seal the win. Broken Bow is now 1-2 on the season and will travel to Ord next Friday. The Chanticleers are still looking for their first win after falling to O’Neill Friday night 20-14.

Sandhills/Thedford improved to 3-0 on the season as they got by Burwell 56-8. It was another big game for Sandhills/Thedford quarterback Kyle Cox who opened the game with a 78 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Cox would finish with three rushing touchdowns on runs of 57, 76, and 3 yards. He threw for two touchdowns hooking up with Carson Cooksley on a 40 yard TD pass and connecting with Ross Martindale on a 61 yard TD pass. Cox also returned a fumble for a touchdown. Burwell’s score came on a 5 yard touchdown run by Drew Dawe. The Longhorns are now 1-2 on the season.
