It’s week #3 of the high school football season. Broken Bow returns home today to host St. Paul at Mark Russell Field. Both teams will be looking to pick up their first win of the season. Broken Bow fell to Chadron in week #1 (12-6) and came up short last week against Ogallala on the road (18-7). St. Paul is in Class C2 this season and has suffered losses to Kearney Catholic in week #1 (37-14) and last week to Raymond Central (28-26). As Broken Bow prepares for its matchup tonight with the Wildcats, head coach Carlie Wells told KCNI/KBBN sports that he has been pleased with the way some of the younger players have continued to grow in their understanding of the game.
“Yeah, I think every game is a learning experience for some of our freshmen and sophomores who are starting for the first time. They’ve got information and they’ve got to pack it away and continue to learn and recognize situations just to get better. I think that’s part of the learning experience, doing that.”
Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KCNI 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com. Coverage begins with the Custer Electric and Irrigation pregame show at 6 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.

Today’s KBBN area game of the week will feature six man football as the SEM Mustangs host Shelton. SEM is off to a 1-1 start this season. The Mustangs opened with a win over Ansley/Litchfield on the road 44-12 but fell to defending six man state champion Stuart last week 31-6. Shelton is coming off a bye week and is 0-1 this season after falling to Silver Lake in its season opener 44-27. SEM head coach Shane Hrasky visited with KCNI/KBBN sports this week and said of the things he has been most pleased with during the early part of the season it has been the running game.
“Yeah, I think we’re running the ball well. We’re still shuffling guys around trying to find what guy fits best where and trying to get some of the young guys to fill in for us. But yeah, I think we’re running the ball pretty well and playing pretty decent defense so far.”
Today’s game is scheduled for an afternoon kickoff and will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Coverage begins with the Consolidated pregame show at 2 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 3 p.m.
