Area Cowboys and Cowgirls Compete at High School Rodeos in Atkinson and Valentine

Area cowboys and cowgirls competed in Nebraska high school rodeos at Atkinson and Valentine over the weekend.  Cooper Bass of Brewster was the boys all around champion on Sunday at Valentine.  It was a big day for Bass who won the boys cutting with a score of 74, placed first in the team roping with partner Zack Bradley of Brewster in a time of 9.22 seconds, and was the runner-up in the tie down roping on Sunday with a time of 11.57 seconds.  Other area highlights from Sunday’s rodeo in Valentine included Anna Clark of Thedford winning the barrel racing in a time of 17.849 seconds and Cooper Kursave of Arcadia won the the bull riding with a score of 74.

Saturday’s rodeo took place in Atkinson.  Among the area highlights there, Spencer DeNaeyer of Seneca was the bareback champion with a winning score of 70.  Cooper Bass of Brewster won the boys cutting with a score of 74.  Coy Johnston of Stapleton won the steer wrestling in a time of 4.52 seconds.  Jymmie Jensen of Burwell teamed with Tatum Olson of Bloomfield to win the team roping in a time of 8.47 seconds and Matthew Miller of Callaway was the tie down roping champion in a winning time of 10.76 seconds.
