The NSAA state cross country championships will take place today at the Kearney Country Club.
The Broken Bow girls qualified as a team for the Class C championships by finishing third in the team standings at the the C-5 district meet at Ogallala last week. Broken Bow was led by freshman Ashlyn Schauda who placed 4th in the district. Joining Schauda at today’s meet representing Broken Bow will be Annette Guevara, Genesis Guevara, Gaby Staple, Jaycee Staples, and MaKinley Tobey. Jackson Hansen of Broken Bow will compete in the Class C boys race. Hansen qualified as an individual for the meet by placing 13th at the C-5 district meet. The Class C girls race is scheduled for 3 p.m. while the Class C boys race will be the final race of the day scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
In Class D, Mullen qualified as a team for the girls state championships by finishing as team runner up in the D-6 district. Peyton Paxton of Mullen returns to state as a two time state medalist finishing 3rd in Class D in 2021 and finishing 13th last year. Joining Paxton at today’s meet representing Mullen will be Harper Andersen, Riley Hegland, and Ady Hampton. Kyle Finney of Mullen will compete in the Class D boys race. Finney qualified as an individual for the meet by placing 14th at the D-6 district meet.
South Loup qualified two boys and two girls for today’s Class D meet. Ella Cool of South Loup was the D-5 district champion and will be joined in today’s race by teammate Ivy Tullis who also qualified as an individual by finishing 14th at the district meet. In the Class D boys race, South Loup will be represented by Logan Recoy who placed third at districts and Josiah Coleman who placed 15th.
Other area Class D girls state qualifiers include Rilyn Schledewitz of SEM who placed 8th at districts and Lena Spencer of Burwell who placed 13th at districts.
The Class D girls race is scheduled for 2:30 today and the Class D boy race is scheduled for 3:30.
