Area Athletes Shine at Central Nebraska Track Championships

The Central Nebraska Track Championships, sponsored in part by the Grand Island Independent, took place Monday at Northwest High School in Grand Island.  Several athletes from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area were among those who qualified to participate.

Among the area highlights, Luke Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield took gold in the boys 110 meter hurdles in a winning time of 15.05 seconds and was runner up in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 40.43 seconds. Justin Folkers of Twin Loup took gold in the boys high jump with a winning of height of 6′ 2″. In the girls 800, Tayler Obermiller of Arcadia/Loup City was the champion with a winning time of 2:25.39 and Halle Quinn of Broken Bow was runner up in a time of 2:27.43. Broken Bow took gold in the girls 4×400 meter relay. The team of Aliya Myer, Klarissa Dowdy, Halle Quinn, and Maren Chapin posted the winning time of 4:06.94. Broken Bow was runner up in the girls 4×800. The team of Halle Quinn, Gaby Staples, Addison Ellis, and Ashlyn Schauda posted a time of 10:10.19. Maren Chapin of Broken Bow was runner up in the girls 400 in a time of 1:00.5. Janae Marten of Broken Bow was runner up in the girls shot put with an effort of 36′ 5.5″ and Keelyn Shea of Broken Bow was runner up in the girls discus with an effort of 122′ 7″.
