The NSAA district cross country championships were held across the state on Thursday. The top three teams in each district and top fifteen individuals, whether part of a team or running as an individual, qualified for the state championships which will take place October 25th at the Kearney Country Club.
Broken Bow was among the teams that competed at the C-5 district meet at Ogallala. Gothenburg won both the boys and girls district team titles. Ashlyn Schauda of Broken Bow qualified for state as an individual finishing 5th in the girls race in a time of 20:50.28. The Broken Bow girls finished just outside the top three of the district finishing 4th in the team standings just six points behind third place Sidney. Genesis Guevara was just outside the top 15 finishing 18th overall. The Broken Bow boys finished 8th in the team standings. The top Broken Bow finishers were Logan Bell who placed 20th (18:17.6) and Jackson Hansen was 25th (18:23.45). Tyler Hetz of Gothenburg was the boys district champion in a time of 16:14.6 and Scout Bell of Gothenburg was the girls district champion in a time of 19:45.67. At the D-5 district meet at Cambridge, the South Loup boys qualified as a team finishing in third place. Jaden Baker and Josiah Coleman each finished in the top 15. Baker was 4th overall in boys individual standings with a time of 18:50.05 and Josiah Coleman qualified for state in 9th place in a time of 19:10.36. Ivy Tullis and Ella Cool of South Loup each qualified for state as individuals finishing in the top 15 of the girls individual standings. Tullis was 4th (22:34.73) and Cool was 5th (22:42.48). The D-5 girls district individual champion was Rilyn Schledewitz of SEM in a winning time 22:02.10 to qualify for state. SEM’s Clayton Scoville qualified for state finishing in the top 15 of the D-5 boys standings placing 10th (19:15.27).
At the D-3 district meet at Ainsworth, Connor Sutton of Sandhills/Thedford qualified for state placing 6th in the boys standings in a time of 18:57.36. Everett Funk of Twin Loup also qualified for state finishing 15th (19:39.63). Burwell had two girls qualify for state out of the district. Lena Spencer was 7th and Jalise Busch placed 9th. At the D-6 district meet at Grant, the Mullen girls qualified as a team finishing 2nd overall. Mullen was led by Peyton Paxton who was third in a time of 21:41.02. Mullen had two other place in the top 15. Riley Hegland was 6th and Ady Hampton was 14th. Keith Morash of Sandhills Valley qualified for state placing in the top 15 of the boys individual standings finishing 10th.
