Area golfers competed in district competition on Monday. The top three teams and top ten individuals in each district qualified for the NSAA state championships scheduled for May 28th and 29th.
Broken Bow competed at the C-5 district meet hosted by Ogallala at Crandall Creek golf course. Broken Bow finished sixth in the team standings with a 364 team score. Broken Bow’s Jack White qualified for state as an individual for the second consecutive year. White finished in the top ten placing 8th with a round of 84. Also qualifying for state out of the district was Trey Bartels of Gothenburg who finished 6th overall with a round of 83. The district team champion was Amherst followed by Ogallala in 2nd and Perkins County was third. The Class C state tournament will take place at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island.
Anselmo-Merna, South Loup, Sandhills/Thedford, Burwell, and Sandhills Valley all competed at the D-3 district played at Ainsworth Municipal golf course. Brady Haake of Sandhills/Thedford qualified for state finishing in the top ten placing fourth overall with a round of 80. Hayes Plugge of Burwell qualified for state finishing in a tie for 10th with a round of 87. The individual district champion was Keian Fischer of North Central with a low round of 70. Teams that qualified from the district were North Central with a low team score of 323, Neligh-Oakdale was the district runner up with a 345 and CWC was third with a 348. South Loup finished in fourth with a 369 team score.
Mullen competed at the D-5 district meet hosted by North Platte St. Pat’s at Lake Maloney Golf Course. Mullen just missed qualifying for state as a team finishing two shots outside the top three teams placing fourth overall. The Broncos did qualify two individuals for state. Ben Werner placed 4th overall with a round of 82 to qualify and Jacob Walker qualified in a tie for 10th with a round of 88. The Class D state tournament will take place at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus.
