Area Athletes Compete at UNK Cross Country Meet

The University of Nebraska Kearney hosted its annual high school cross country meet Monday at the Kearney Country Club.  Runners from across the state in all classes competed.  Recapping some of the area highlights.  In the Class D boys race, Keith Morash of Sandhills Valley was the top area finisher placing 31st overall (19:05.7).  Josiah Coleman of South Loup placed in the top 40 finishing 37th (19:18.5).  The Class D boys champion was Mason McGreer of Perkins County in a winning time of 16:20.32.  In the Class D girls race, The top area finisher was Peyton Paxton of Mullen who placed 20th overall (21:56.99).  Others from the area finishing in the top 30 included Riley Hegland of Mullen (23rd), Rilyn Schledewitz of SEM (24th), and Ella Cool of South Loup (28th).  The Class D girls champion was Sage Holtmeier of Tri County in a winning time of 20:29.72.

In Class C, Broken Bow’s Logan Bell finished in the top 50 of the boys race placing 44th (18:43.34).  The Class C boys champion was Tyler Hetz of Gothenburg in a winning time of 16:39.78.  Ashlyn Schauda of Broken Bow placed 15th in the Class C girls race.  Schauda’s time was 21:23.26.  The Class C girls champion was Hailey O’Daniel of Arlington in a winning time of 19:53.04.  Gothenburg’s Scout Bell was third overall in a time of 20:16.65.

In other classes, Juan Gonzalez of Fremont won the Class A boys race in a time of 15:31.4.  The Class A girls race was won by Abigail Burger of Kearney in a time of 18:53.02.  In Class B, the boys race was won by Braden Lofquest of Gretna East (15:23.9) and the girls race was won by Leah Robinson of Elkhorn North (18:51.4)
