Area Athletes Compete at Central Nebraska Track Championships

Northwest high school in Grand Island was host to the Grand Island Independent / Central Nebraska track and field championships on Monday.  Several athletes from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area were among the competitors.

Among the area highlights, five individuals cleared the winning height of 13’9″ in the boys pole vault.  Among those clearing the winning height were Coy Wardyn of Broken Bow and Quincy Ryker of Twin Loup.  After the tie break criteria was sorted out, Wardyn was the boys pole vault champion and Ryker finished in a tie for third.  Broken Bow claimed the top two spots in the boys shot put.  Max Denson was the boys shot put champion with a winning effort of 54′ 8.75″ and Evan Cyboron was runner up with an effort of 51′ 11.25″. Cruze Safranek of Broken Bow took gold in the boys 100 meter dash with a winning time of 10.99. Maren Chapin of Broken Bow was champion in the girls 400 in a winning time of 59.92. Luke Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield won the boys 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.51 seconds and was third in the 300 meter hurdles. Broken Bow placed third in the girls 4×800 meter relay. The team of Maren Chapin, Ashlyn Schauda, Addison Ellis, and Halle Quinn posted a time of 10:11.85. Broken Bow was third in the boys 4×100 meter relay. The team of Brice Chaplin, Coy Wardyn, Eli Coble and Cruze Safranek posted a time of 43.94.
