Area Athletes Chosen to Play in Mr. and Miss Basketball Kearney All Star Games

The rosters have been released for the Kearney All Star girls and boys basketball games which will take place later this summer at the UNK Health and Sports Center in Kearney. The games are scheduled for Sunday June 4th with the girls all star game tipping off at 6:30 and the boys all star game to follow at 7:45. The games feature Central Nebraska’s top graduating players competing one final time.

Athletes from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area that have been invited to play in this year’s girls all star game include Carlee Bartak of Anselmo-Merna and Cora Gideon of Burwell. Bartak averaged 7.2 points per game this past season for Anselmo-Merna while Gideon led Burwell in scoring averaging 11.3 points per game. Both will represent the Red Team which will be coached by Laethion Brown who coached Centura to the Class D1 girls state championship this season.

The KCNI/KBBN coverage area will be well represented in the boys all star game. Broken Bow’s Roman Schmidt will play for the Blue Team in this year’s event. Schmidt led the Indians in scoring this season averaging 10.5 points per game.  Joining Schmidt on the Blue Team will be Leyton Rohde of Ansley/Litchfield and Hayden Griffith of Arcadia/Loup City. Rohde helped lead the Spartans to a state tournament appearance and averaged double figure scoring this season at 13.3 points per game. Griffith led Arcadia/Loup City in scoring this season averaging 13.4 points per game. Kellen Eggleston of SEM and Devin Konicek of Burwell will play for the Red Team. Eggleston helped lead the SEM Mustangs to a state tournament appearance this year and a third place finish. Eggleston led the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game. Konicek averaged 8.7 points per game for the Burwell Longhorns this season.  The boys blue team will be coached by Kearney High head coach Drake Beranek and the red team will be coached by Minden head coach Carson Blum.
