Anselmo Merna Wrestling D2 District Team Champs / Twin Loup Runner up

Anselmo-Merna claimed the D2 district wrestling team championship Saturday. The Coyotes won the team title with 159 points finishing just ahead of Twin Loup who was the district runner-up with 126 points. AM qualified 7 wrestlers for the state tournament including three district champions. Tyce Porter was district champion at 145 lbs. Jadon Wells was the champion at 152 lbs. and Sid Miller was the district champion at 195 lbs. Other state qualifiers for the Coyotes include Tristan Olson (2nd) at 113 lbs., Jarrett Wells (3rd) at 132, Caden Coufal (4th) at 160, and Tayte Thornton (2nd) at 285.

Twin Loup qualified six wrestlers for the state championships coming up in Omaha. The Wolves were led by Slate Micheel who claimed the district championship at 220 lbs. Other qualifiers for Twin Loup include Keaton Dowse (2nd) at 138 lbs., Cazen Smith (4th) at 145, Garrett Keith (3rd) at 152, Garrett Schneider (2nd) at 170, and Stetson Bottorf (3rd) at 182.

Other area highlights from the D2 district included Sandhills/Thedford qualifying three wrestlers for the state tournament. Qualifying for the Knights were Coby Higgins (3rd) at 160 lbs., Rhett McFadden (4th) at 182, and Zebb Wilde (4th) at 285 lbs. Arcadia/Loup City qualified two wrestlers for the state tournament. Representing the Rebels at state will be Christopher Allen (4th) at 106 lbs. and Kaden Reeves (3rd) at 138. SEM qualified three for state. Representing the Mustangs will be Maddox Jones who was the district champion at 170 lbs., Clayton Scoville placed third at 106 and Treu Atkins was third at 120 lbs. Burwell qualified three for state. Representing the Longhorns at state will be Austin Mayfield who was the district champion at 138 lbs., Hagen Hodges was champion at 182, and Cale Buss was third at 220 lbs.

The NSAA state wrestling championships will take place Feb. 16-18 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
