Athletes compete at Anselmo-Merna Invite.

 

Area athletes competed at the Anselmo-Merna track and field invitational on Thursday.  KCNI/KBBN sports was told it was the first track meet held at Merna since 1991.  Maywood Hayes Center won both the boys and girls team championships.  Twin Loup was runner-up in the boys team standings and Sandhills/Thedford was runner-up in the girls standings.  The top individual performance of the day was turned by Payton Stienike of Brady who claimed four golds winning the girls 100, 200, 100 meter hurdles, and 300 meter hurdles.

Among the area highlights, Quincy Ryker of Twin Loup was champion in the boys 100 meter dash in a winning time of 11.59 seconds.  Jarrett Wells of Anselmo-Merna won the boys 200 in a time of 25.01.  Brodie Stengel of Sandhills/Thedford won the boys 3200 in a time of 11:57.9.  Caenyn Priest of Anselmo-Merna won the boys 300 meter hurdles in a time of 45.64 seconds.  In the boys relays, Anselmo-Merna won the the 4×100 and Sandhills/Thedford was first in the 4×800.  In the boys field events, Mace Beran of Twin Loup won the shot put (36’11”), Brady Dahlberg of Sandhills/Thedford won the discus (120′ 1.5″), Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna won the high jump (6′), Quincy Ryker of Twin Loup won the pole vault (11′ 6″), Kyle Cox of Sandhills/Thedford won the long jump (19’1″), and Justin Folkers of Twin Loup won the triple jump (38′ 10″).

On the girls side, area highlights included Sandhills/Thedford winning the girls 4×100 and 4×800 meter relays.  In the field events, Jaylen Dimmitt of Sandhills/Thedford won the girls shot put (33′ 8″), Arena Fetty of Sandhills/Thedford won the discus (109′ 10″), and Makenna Miller of Anselmo-Merna won the high jump (5′ 6″).
