Nebraska 8 Man Football All Star Weekend

The 47th annual Sertoma Eight-Man All-Star football game will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 6 PM at Hastings College’s Lloyd Wilson Field in Hastings, Nebraska. The game supports the Nebraska Speech and Hearing Association, which helps people with speech and hearing disorders, through ticket and program sales.

The KCNI/KBBN coverage area will be well represented in this year’s game.  The West squad will be coached by Twin Loup’s Mike Kozeal.  He will be assisted by Zane Young of Twin Loup, Chip Bartos of Central Valley, and Brendan Geier of Perkins County.  Area athletes selected to the West team roster are:

Quincy Ryker – Twin Loup
Trey Connell – South Loup
Chase Gracey – Mullen
Quinten Myers – Anselmo-Merna
Zeb Wilde – Sandhills/Thedford
Joey Sallach – South Loup
Rhett McFadden – Sandhills/Thedford

Full team rosters are posted at the bottom of the story.

Also this weekend, the Nebraska Eight Man Football Coaches Association will induct the Hall of Fame Class of 2024.  Two coaches and ten players will be inducted during ceremonies to be held on Saturday.  Among the ten players being inducted is Anselmo-Merna grad Matt McGinn.  McGinn played for Anselmo-Merna from 1993-1996 and was a first team Class D1 all state selection as a senior.  Back when the hall of fame class was announced, McGinn visited with Central Nebraska’s Sports Source about the honor for which he was extremely grateful.

“Speechless…I think speechless is the first thing that comes to mind.  If you kind of go back since they started this and you go back and look at some of the big names and the great players and great coaches that are already in there it’s just kind of mind blowing that I made it and that I got the phone call.  Just grateful.”

Joining McGinn in this year’s Hall of Fame Class will be players Steven Bazata (Howells), Chris Carpenter (Falls City Sacred Heart), Josh Frerichs (Lodgepole), Brian Hahn (Hampton), Brandon Johnson (Rushville), Jerry Leiss (Indianola), Travis Mlady (Bloomfield), Larry Tomlinson (O’Neill St. Mary’s), Jeff Veerhusen (Adams).  Coaches Jon Dahl (Mead), Curt Johnson (Lawrence).
