The 2024 NSAA state track and field championships begin today at Burke Stadium in Omaha. It is the opening day of competition for Class A and B. Broken Bow will be among the teams competing in the Class B competition. Keelyn Shea will be the first to compete for Broken Bow participating in the Class B girls discus which is one of the opening events of today’s meet starting at 9 a.m. Shea has the 10th best throw in Class B (126′ 1″) entering the state meet. The Class B boys shot put takes place today at 11:30. Broken Bow will have three competitors in the event including Max Denson, Evan Cyboron, and Brice Chaplin. Denson has the third best throw in Class B (56′ 10.25″) entering the state meet and Cyboron has the ninth best throw (52′ 1.25″) entering state. The first running event on the track today at 1:30 will be the girls 4×800 meter relay. Broken Bow will be represented in the race by Ashlyn Schauda, Maren Chapin, Addison Ellis, Halle Quinn. Broken Bow was third in the event at the B-5 district meet last week but became an additional qualifier based on their district time. Broken Bow’s Cruze Safranek will compete in the prelims of the boys 100 and 200 meter dash today. Safranek has the fastest time in Class B in the boys 100 this season (10.61) entering the state meet.

The final day of competition for classes A and B will be tomorrow (5/16). Classes C and D will compete on Friday (5/17) and Saturday (5/18).
