Woman Facing Six Felony Charges to Appear in District Court

CUSTER COUNTY—A 28-year-old Lincoln woman faces six felony charges and two misdemeanor charges. Jessie J. Shafer currently remains in custody but appeared in Custer County Court on Monday to waive her preliminary hearing.

According to court documents, Shafer is charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person–second offense–(class IB felony), use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony (class II felony), possession of stolen property (class IIA felony), third degree assault on an officer (class IIIA felony), possession of methamphetamine (class IV felony), and flight to avoid arrest (class IV felony).

The misdemeanor charges include driving under suspension–fourth offense–and criminal mischief.

Shafer could face a life imprisonment sentence. She is scheduled to appear for arraignment in District Court on February 8 at 9:30 a.m.

Sixty-five-year-old Carl D. Royle of Kearney appeared for charges of driving under the influence—sixth offense—aggravated, and driving under suspension. If convicted, Royle could face up to 70 years imprisonment and 15-year license revocation. Royle will also appear in District Court on February 8.

Broken Bow man Thomas M. Zimmer, 32, faces charges of terroristic threats (class IIIA felony), use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony (class IC felony), and possession of deadly weapon by prohibited person (class ID felony). These charges follow an event that allegedly took place in June of this year. Zimmer will appear on February 8 in District Court.
