VRI cost-share program application deadline approaching

The Lower Loup NRD is sending out a reminder that the application for the Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) cost-share program is approaching on March 31.

Offered to landowners since 2019 to upgrade center pivot systems to become VRI capable, benefits include increased watering efficiency, water savings, and a reduction in chemical and fertilizer use. Associated cost savings, increased yield in low production areas, and reduced yield variation are also added benefits.

Limited to two applications per landowner per year at up to $2,000/application, the cost-share rate is $1.37/ linear foot based on the length of the center pivot.

With funds being limited, those interested are encouraged to apply soon at their local NRCS office up until the March 31 deadline.

Questions can be directed to the Lower Loup NRD at 308-728-3221.
