In honor of the upcoming prediction by that famed prognosticator, the groundhog, the Ansley/Litchfield Girl Scout Troop #00885 is preparing to host a unique meal on Saturday, January 31.
From 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Ansley Community Building, the troop will be holding the 1st Annual Custer County Ground Hog Supper. The meal will feature “ground hog”, along with baked potato, beans, and dessert.
Not to worry though, according to Troop Leader Stephanie Evans, the “groundhog” featured on the menu is in fact pulled pork!
“I actually got the idea from the Bartlett Lions Club,” said Evans. “They do this every year, and they have really good success. And I thought, you know, this would be something nice for Custer County to do as well.”
The cost to attend the dinner is $10 per plate, or $30 to feed the whole family.
In addition, attendees can enter a raffle to win a number of fun prizes donated by troop families and several area businesses.
“For our raffle items, our sponsors are Ready Set Grow Childcare, Science Shenanigans, Bottlenose Bakery, Modern Edge, Dairy Queen, and Ollie’s. Then each Girl Scout family is donating a unique basket theme,” Evans said.

Other event sponsors include Trotters, Flatwater Bank, and Fill-n-Chill Gas Station in Ansley.
All proceeds go to support the Ansley/Litchfield Girl Scout Troop in their next adventures. Already being planned are trips to sporting events across the state, tours of local businesses, research at the Custer County Historical Society, and of course camping trips.
Evans said, “At Girl Scouts, we believe the best lessons don’t just happen in meetings, they happen out in the world. Our troop is focused on giving girls real hands-on experiences, both close to home and far beyond it. Girl Scouts have trips all the time throughout the year for anybody that is able to attend. So we could go just to Nebraska or the United States, or we could go all over the world. So these girls are working toward some bigger places to visit outside of Nebraska.”
The Ansley/Litchfield Girl Scouts invite one and all to join them for a ground hog meal, enter to win raffle items, and help support these local girls as they prepare for their upcoming adventures.
