Two take plea deal in Howard County cockfighting case

HOWARD COUNTY – Two of the ten charged men in the December Howard County cockfighting ring bust have taken plea deals.

Victor Mora, 45 of Grand Island, and Gustavo Renteria Garcia, 46 of Palmer, pled no contest on Wednesday to owning or possessing animal fight paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, in exchange for a reduction of an initial felony charge of cockfighting.

Both Mora and Renteria Garcia were ordered to pay $500 fines.

A December search warrant seized numerous animals in Renteria Garcia’s residence in Palmer, resulting in ten arrests. All individuals involved have been released on bail.
