Two Local Opportunities Available to Complete Hunter Education this Weekend

Youth in the Broken Bow area will have an opportunity to learn safe hunting skills this weekend. Two separate Hunter Education courses will be on offer October 25-26.

The Loup Valley Chapter of Hunters For Youth will be presenting a Hunter Education Course at Mid-Plains Community College in Broken Bow, Room 103. The course will run from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM on Saturday, and from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Sunday.

A separate Hunter Education course will also be available at the Nebraska One Box Gun Club on Rd 435. The course at the One Box Gun Club will occur from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.

For both courses, any child under 11 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for each session – to be certified, a student must be at least 11 years old by the last day of the class. Youth under 18 years of age must provide a signed, completed Parental Release Form at the first session. Parents or guardians should plan to attend the first session with any student under 19 years of age to ensure appropriate information is received on dates, sessions, and additional requirements.

Pre-registration for the courses is recommended. Registration for Hunter Education can be accomplished on the Nebraska Game and Parks registration website. If seats are available, participants may also register at the event on Saturday morning.

According to Nebraska Game and Parks, hunters ages 12 through 29 must have proof on their person (including display on a mobile phone) of the completion of Firearm Hunter Education while hunting any game with a firearm or air gun, or Bowhunter Education while hunting deer, antelope, elk or bighorn sheep with a bow or crossbow.

With hunting season here, so is the time to ensure every hunter has the opportunity to learn safe practices for the field.
