Two art students at Litchfield Public Schools have had their work chosen to be included in the 8th annual My Life in Nebraska exhibit at the Governor’s residence this summer. James Fletcher and Malynn Boyles will have their pieces shipped to the governor’s residence where they will be displayed from May 9 to August 1.

Fletcher and Boyles’ work were both a part of the state visual art show, among 16 from Litchfield students. The show was juried on a rubric by five professionals in their field, with students receiving Honorable Mention, “Silver Key”, or the highest honor of “Gold Key”. Four works from Litchfield received the highest honor, from students Malynn Boyles, Caydence Feldman, Lane Slocum, and James Fletcher.

The photography piece from Fletcher and the copper piece from Boyles will make one more trip to the Governor’s residence. In a letter to the teachers of those selected, a statement read that the works are selected based on originality, technical skill, and expression.

When asked what he felt when he found out, Fletcher said “I was very surprised when I first was notified, it was crazy to me because I didn’t even know this existed but being able to be recognized in a class D2 school among class A and B schools is such an honor!”

He added advice to young students, “Never give up, and always push through and keep taking photos because you never know when you took ‘the one’.”
