LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has announced the winners of the 2023 youth poster contest, with two area students taking home high honors.
Malechi McLeod, Thedford 2nd grader, took home first place in the First & Second Grade category, and Abby Hickenbottom, a 5th grader from Ansley Public Schools, won third in the Fifth & Sixth Grade category.
McLeod’s winning poster was selected from a statewide total of 574 entries from first and second-graders, and Hickenbottom’s 3rd-place poster was selected from a statewide total of 484 fifth and sixth-graders.
Students from other area schools also submitted posters for the contest, including Anselmo-Merna, Burwell, Litchfield, Ansley, Callaway, and Mullen. The theme for 2023’s Agriculture Week was “Celebrating Nebraska Agriculture.”
