Trunks and Treats Around the Area – Safe and Fun Activities for All Ages

Organizations and communities across Central Nebraska are gearing up for the Halloween season, putting on creepy shows and kid-friendly events. According to Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce Director Stephanie Grafel, at least 65 trunks and businesses will be open around and near the Broken Bow City Square for its annual Trunk-or-Treat celebration.

Attending a community-sponsored trunk-or-treat event that brings together several stops for kids in a single location is just one way to keep kids safe and happy during their Halloween celebrations.

Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond recently spoke with KCNI/KBBN about Halloween safety. Osmond stressed patience and extra attention at corners and crosswalks as key factors for drivers to enhance awareness of kids who may be out and more interested in which house has the biggest candy bar than safety.

Osmond also shared tips for keeping kids safe in their holiday activities.

“I think one of the big things is with the trick-or-treaters, you have a lot of cool costumes out there,” noted Osmond, “but it’s going to be dark when you’re going out, so you have make sure that your costume is visible so people can see you. And then with the younger kids, they definitely need an adult there to help them, to move them around, to keep them safe. ”

As youngsters are out across the area, there will be plenty of opportunities to show off their costumes, collect treats, and maybe pull off a trick or two. Older kids and adults will have their own chance to experience some thrills and chills as well.

KCNI/KBBN has been collecting community event fliers. See our list of upcoming spooky and fun area activities below.
