Responders were called to an accident on the short section of 800 road connecting Highway 2 and Paulsen Road/ Road 437 west of Broken Bow just ahead of the Noon hour on Tuesday. The accident was later observed to be between a train and a semi truck pulling a cattle trailer.
The Custer County Sheriff’s Office and area firefighters were observed on scene, both assisting in cleanup and traffic control on Highway 2. The truck appears to have been traveling to the south when its trailer was impacted by the train traveling to the west. The truck was left sitting on the south side of the tracks with its trailer swung to the north next to the stopped train.
Equipment and personnel were on scene to assist with wrangling cattle that were outside of the trailer, while several other cattle were observed to have varying levels of injuries as well.
UPDATE: The train had not moved as of 5 PM Tuesday.
UPDATE: The train had not moved as of 7:30 PM Tuesday. The truck was gone from the scene and the trailer was being loaded. All cattle had been removed from the scene.
