KANSAS CITY, MO – Thedford’s Hayden Hoffman was among those recognized at the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) Fed Steer Shootout in Kansas City. Hoffman was recognized as a Champion in individual commercial steer competition and also achieved highest average daily gain recognition in the commercial division.
This year’s event, which teaches young people about the cattle feeding industry, attracted 72 junior participants from more than 20 states from California to Pennsylvania. 211 head of Hereford and Hereford-influenced steers were entered, with this year’s winners receiving more than $15,000 in cash prizes and awards from the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA).
Contestants collected feed yard performance and carcass data while gaining comprehensive industry knowledge on topics such as animal health, nutrition, and marketing.
