Team Valley 303 takes first place in 64th One Box Pheasant Hunt

Hunters form across the country were hosted for three days of shooting competitions, hunting activities, award banquets, and social events in Broken Bow this past weekend. Equipped with one box of shells, teams compete annually to bag the most birds.

Team Valley 303 took first place in this year’s 64th One Box Pheasant Hunt, scoring 83 points shooting 15 pheasants and 4 quail. Team members included Captain Scott Cassels of Omaha, Mitch Cassels of Colorado Springs, Ryan Glow of Waterloo, Kyle Johnson of Valley, and JD Squire of Omaha. Jason Baum and Justin Carpenter served as guides, with Jared Robertson handling the dogs. Jed Birnie served as scorekeeper for the top team, which was hosted by Jim and Deb Girardin.

The Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt has been dedicated to fellowship among sportsmen as well as supporting the creation of wildlife habitat. Local scholarships are funded through One Box, to the tune of approximately $12,500 annually since 1981. Funds generated also maintain the One Box Gun Club and support the youth shooting program.

Full results from this year’s event can be seen below. A three way tie behind team Valley 303 was settled via tie breaker, with the team that got their last pheasant first taking the highest spot.
