Submissions being taken for congressional art competition

Announced earlier this month, Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-03) is inviting high school students across the state’s third district to submit their artwork for this year’s Congressional Art Competition. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 27.

The competition is part of a nationwide effort to recognize and encourage artistic talent that includes all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.

The overall winner of Nebraska’s third district competition will have his or her artwork displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol among artwork from other nationwide winners. Runners-up will be displayed in Smith’s Washington, D.C. and third district offices.

Submitted artwork needs to be two-dimensional up to 26″ x 26″ x 4″ (including the frame) and entries cannot weigh more than 15 pounds.

Types of art that can be submitted include:

  • Paintings – including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings – including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
  • Collages
  • Prints – including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed Media
  • Computer Generated Art
  • Photography

Originality in concept, design, and execution are required.

Smith partners with the Nebraska Art Teachers Association to select winners. All entries should be submitted via email to [email protected] with CAD in the subject line. The forms linked below must accompany each entry.

Questions about the competition can be directed to Smith’s Grand Island office at 308-384-3900.
