Structure fire in Berwyn results in complete loss, fundraiser organized

A garage/shop building in Berwyn has been deemed a complete loss following a fire this past weekend that put it up in flames.

Ansley Fire Chief Travis Harrop says responders were called to 305 Curran Avenue in Berwyn Saturday morning to reports of a structure fire. Mason City and Broken Bow also provided trucks and personnel to the blaze.

Harrop says there were no injuries as a result of the fire, which is being categorized as accidental.

A fundraiser to help John Templin, the owner of the building, has been organized. Funds will assist in the replacement of a work mower, tools, and machines that were inside in addition to the structure itself. The fundraiser post says Templin uses the mower and tools for service work and income.

Organizer Tawny Nicholas told KCNI/KBBN that Templin himself is one to help the community himself.

“He is a humble man and does not ask the world for anything,” said Nicholas. “He has a smile on his face all the time and just does what he can to help our community. This is just a small gesture to help give back all the wonderful years he has given to us.”
