Stop signs, speed limits, ATV/UTV usage on City Council agenda

Broken Bow City Council will meet at 6 PM tonight (Tuesday, March 25) at the Broken Bow Municipal Building on South 10th Avenue.

Several ordinances regarding stop sign placements will potentially be seeing their last appearance on agendas before the council. Each ordinance has had its readings not waived throughout their life so far, giving council and the public the opportunity to give input and discuss in depth. Each ordinance will have one last public hearing before being up for consideration of approval tonight.

New proposed stop sign locations are as follows (visual aid maps at the end of this story):

  • North side of the South 8th Avenue and South D Street intersection
  • North and south side of the South 6th Avenue and South C Street intersection
  • North and south side of the South 7th Avenue and South C Street intersection
  • Four way stop signs at the South 6th Avenue and South D Street intersection
  • Four way stop signs at the South 7th Avenue and South D Street intersection
  • North and south side of the North 9th Avenue and North H Street intersection

Alongside the stop sign placement ordinances has been ordinance 1298, a speed limit change for the stretch of South B street between the former Gary’s Super Foods and Tomahawk Park. The ordinance, which would raise the speed limit to 25 MPH from 15 MPH has seen very little discussion in comparison to the stop sign ordinances.

To close tonight’s meeting, ATV and UTV usage within city limits will come into the spotlight. More specifically, if approved, an amendment would be be made to the current ordinance in order to define which vehicles can be operated, where they can be operated, who they can be operated by, and what they should be equipped with.

The ATV/UTV amendment also states that anybody receiving three or more citations within a twelve month period would have their permit revoked for a period of one year after which time a new permit could be applied for.
