Head to the library for some spooky-themed events. Library Director Megan Svoboda talked about all of the fun events that the library is hosting this October.

On October 6 at 5 p.m., there is a “Mad as a Hatter” tea party. Bring a tea cup and enjoy delicious snacks and tea.

On Thursday, October 26 from 2:00-3:00 pm, Homeschoolers Explore STEAM will be hosting a fun activity. In September, they made lava lamps. This activity for this event has not been decided, but it is sure to be a fun time.

The Teen Advisory Board (T.A.B.) will be meeting Wednesday, October 4 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. All teen in grades 6-12 are welcome to join.

Svoboda said there will be a prom event for the first time this year.

“And another new thing that we have going on that we are so excited about is we have a Teen Halloween Zombie Prom. It says “Where Everyone is Dying to Come.”  We will have that on October 27. It is from 6-7:30 and that is just for teens grades 6-12 grade. They should come dressed up in a zombified, school dress-appropriate outfit. And I think they’re gonna do some more makeup and different things. And of course, there will be food, games, and music to dance with.”

Every Monday at 10am, for kids aged 0-pre-k, a Tots and Toys story time is held. This includes stories, songs, activities, and playtime. Lapsit story time is on Fridays at 10am.

A Literary Pumpkin Contest will be held starting October 4, which Svoboda says has a take-home-and-decorate element.

“And again this year we are going to do our Literary Pumpkin Contest. So we will have some pumpkins available at the library that you can swing in any time after October 4 and then drop the decorated pumpkin off before the 27th. And basically, we don’t want you to cut the pumpkins because that might make some bugs in the library.”

Those interested in working out, are invited to the library Monday-Friday to do a beginner workout starting at 6am. Workouts are 30 minutes and it’s more fun to have a partner to workout with, Svoboda said.

October 11 and 25, there is the Drop-In Maker Space Training where you can learn to operate any equipment in the maker space. Equipment includes a Cricut and a glowforge machine.

Wednesday October 11, a Spooky String Art craft will have everyone weaving string to create Halloween decorations. Four different templates will be available including a ghost, cat, the word boo, or a pumpkin. All that is needed is a hammer.

Svoboda added that you can find all of October’s information on the library’s website, and on Facebook, or you are invited to call the library at (308)872-2927.
